PAPER SCULPTURES

Purpose, Process, Paper, 2019

This explorative series of Paper Sculptures was exhibited in Purpose, Process, Paper during the 2019 SNAG conference, The Loop: Coming Full Circle, in Chicago, IL. It was curated by Kiff Slemmons and Catherine Bowyer.

Purpose, Process, Paper called upon jewelers to create pieces with a material far less prized than gold: paper. For Enterline, this experimentation with paper proved to be an intriguing portal to experimentation in general. Using a different medium — a different way of perforating — frees the mind for new ideas to evolve.

Through the process of burning and perforating, the flat paper began to take a sculptural form upon which texture and color could be layered. While Enterline has always been more drawn to the interior of things than the exterior, it is the interplay between the two that she finds most compelling — that intersection between craft and ugliness, beauty and violence, seduction and ease.

MATERIALS: Burnt watercolor paper, powdered pigments, turmeric, mica, crushed glass, broken auto glass, nails, sterling silver
