PRETTY CRUDE

San Agapito Necklace

Titusville Chandelier Pendant

Pretty Crude was a solo exhibition shown at Velvet da Vinci, San Francisco, CA in 2011.

Pretty Crude refers to Enterline’s deeply personal relationship to the crude oil she collected/ pilfered near her birthplace, Oil City, Pennsylvania. However, there is also universal meaning in the way the pursuit of oil has shaped our global history from the time it was discovered to the present.

Titusville Chandelier Pendant
The Titusville Chandelier Pendant is formed from oxidized sterling silver, representsing soot, and petroleum, a substance that is precious, but not usually considered beautiful. This unexpected juxtaposition transforms these seemingly discordant materials, charging them with new, layered and intertwined meanings. The vials house the petroleum as if it is were a scientific specimen, allowing light to illuminate the rich amber of the oil.

MATERIALS: Oxidized sterling silver, 10k white gold, glass ampules, petroleum

San Agapito Necklace
For the San Agapito Necklace, oil vials were coupled with coral that Enterline collected off a beach in the Philippines. She combined these as a sad reflection about our world and the damage we are doing to it through our reckless love affair with petroleum and our sloppy and careless retrieval of it from the bowels of the earth. Pretty Crude was a solo exhibition shown at Velvet da Vinci, San Francisco, CA in 2011.

MATERIALS: Steel, 18k gold, glass ampules, petroleum, coral
